The original BMW E9 was a highly successful and stunning coupe designed in the late '60s. BMW’s new class era took place between 1965 - 1975. The cars produced during this time were the early predecessors to most of BMW’s current lineup. As a racing car the E9 was very successful in the European Touring Car Championship and the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft, especially the 3.0 CSL homologation model nicknamed “The Batmobile”. The BMW 3.0 CSL is probably one of the best-known classic BMW models in the world. It received the nickname “Batmobile” due to its spoiler and large fenders. Introduced in 1972, the 3.0 CSL was a homologation special built to make the car eligible for racing in the European Touring Car Championship. The 3.0 CSL was based on the E9 models and its competition versions won more than 100 races throughout its career.
